About Michelle
Michelle Westfall, MT-BC (Music Therapist-Board Certified) holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA and received a high school diploma with a music performance concentration from University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Winston-Salem, NC.
She completed her music therapy clinical training at Clayton County Public Schools, where she worked with several school-aged populations including children who have autism, developmental disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, and children who are deaf and hard of hearing. She assisted in the countywide special education holiday play, initiated a revision process of the music therapy assessment, and conducted a research study that examined the effects of a music and relaxation technique on children who have autism.
Michelle founded Southern Crescent Music Therapy Services to expand the availability of music therapy services to those who live in the southern metropolitan area of Atlanta, GA. Currently she teaches preschool music classes and has established and developed early childhood music programs for private music studios and preschool programs. She also teaches private percussion lessons, performs in coffee shops and brings music to nursing homes as a volunteer.
As a classically trained percussionist, she has studied with well-known percussionists, John R. Beck, Nancy Zeltsman, and Dave Samuels. She has performed with the Boston City Band and co-directed a public art project known as “Sound Underground,” which received front-page recognition from the Boston Globe.
Michelle is a member of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), National Music Educators Conference (MENC), and former member of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS).
